Explore Merzouga's beautiful surroundings in a uniquely different way: hop onto a buggy and speed through the Sahara dunes. After meeting, you'll be given the safety briefing before setting off so that you can enjoy the activity without a worry.
Merzouga is a small Moroccan town located in the Sahara Desert, near the Algerian border. Merzouga opens onto Erg Chebbi, a huge expanse of sand dunes north of the city. To the west is Dayet Srji, a seasonal salt lake, often dry in summer. When it fills up again, it attracts a wide variety of migratory and desert birds, including warblers, nightjars and, occasionally, flamingos.
Erg Chebbi Merzouga Sahara Desert
Merzouga, the local tourist center, is located on the western lee of the dunes, together with some 70 or more hotels and auberges running north-south along the dunes. Moto Merzouga offer camel trips into the dunes, taking tourists on overnight trips to permanent campsites several kilometres into the erg, and out of sight of the hotels. Erg Chebbi's proximity to the tourist center has led to the erg sometimes being referred to as "dunes of Merzouga.
